85% of people have back pain. How to treat properly and can the pain go away once and for all?
Does your back hurt? You are not alone! Sociological data show that back pain is the second leading cause of disability in adults after viral infections. Mothers are born with us (according to neonatologists, 80–90% of children are born with spinal cord injuries) and sooner or later surpass everyone. It is believed that this is a payback for going straight. As a person grows older, the load on the "backbone" increases, the existing problems of the spine develop stronger, and stress, anxiety, obesity, overload, sedentary lifestyle aggravateadd existing problems - and back pain can occur even at an early age .
What hurts there?
The majority (about 95%) of the pain involves muscles, ligaments, and joints. This is popularly known as pullback. These pains are uncomfortable, but not dangerous, and in most cases they go away on their own in 2-3 days.
3-4% of pain is related to radiculitis - a lesion in the spinal roots. It is often damaged by a hernia. The pain goes away when the swelling caused by squeezing the pimple goes away.
1-2% of back pain cases are due to trauma or inflammatory diseases of the spine, cancer, diseases of the cardiovascular system or gastrointestinal tract, in which the pain syndrome can radiate to the back. This is the most dangerous type of back pain. To rule out such pathologies, be sure to consult a doctor.
You can't hesitate
The main sign that you need medical attention is how often the pain is. If you get twisted sometimes - chances are, there's nothing wrong. If pain of low or moderate intensity haunts you non-stop, you can't wait. Urgent medical advice should be sought if pain is accompanied by an increase in temperature or pain syndrome increases during treatment.
At home
The most effective remedy is oral anti-inflammatory medication. Just don't overdo it - they're only safe the first time around. With prolonged use, these drugs can cause ulcers and bleeding of the stomach lining. Traditional home treatments - nonsteroidal ointments - can only be used as a supplement. They are harmless, but ineffective. Wearing a corset also gives you some relief - immobilization helps relieve spasms in the spine and limits sudden movements. Only corsets should be of the normal type - elastic, not hot.
If treatment does not work within three days, you should consult your doctor, who will stop it with injections of anti-inflammatory drugs. By reducing spasms and relaxing the muscles, the pain goes away immediately and often forever.
Prohibit!
Bath and massageunder the strictest restrictions. They make swelling and pain worse.
Apply to chiropractors for newspaper advertisements.Manual therapy is a field with three hundred quacks per specialist. If you really want to find a good doctor, you should contact certified clinics where certified specialists work.
It is important to immediately determine the correct treatment tactics. This should be done by a neurologist or neurosurgeon. Self-healing of a back injury is dangerous. 30% of patients in the neurosurgery department have tried home treatments and thus put themselves in bed.
Cut or not?
Until recently, a person diagnosed with a hernia was immediately referred for surgery. Today, the operation is carried out only if there are signs:
- persistent pain that no pill can relieve;
- disorders of pelvic functions - incomplete emptying of the bladder;
- weakness and numbness in the legs.
All these symptoms make activity inevitable, because without it the patient can be disabled.
What we risk
The risks of the surgery, due to it being postponed or abandoned altogether, are considered by many patients to be overstated. In neurosurgery, there are technologies that allow you to accurately calculate the effect of the surgery and what symptoms will disappear afterwards and which will remain.
The probability of recurrence of pain after surgery does not exceed 1–1. 5%. Milia in other places may indeed appear, but this is not a complication, but a contagious disease, commonly seen in undisciplined young patients. As soon as the pain passed, they returned to their normal way of life: getting behind the wheel, continuing to exercise. And this is completely impossible.
Is osteonecrosis the cause of everything?
Osteochondrosis is a chronic degenerative-dystrophic change in the intervertebral disc space. All people over 25 years of age show signs of osteonecrosis. Osteonecrosis is not inevitable, but you can save yourself the complications that cause back pain.
